So I haven't posted anything for a little bit, so I thought I would give a little update.
Winter is finally almost over and summer is right around the corner, if it would only stay. But, that almost means storm season is here, too. Friday we had a bit of a scare right before work. High winds, LOTS of rain, and a small tornado. Liberal looked like a lake/war zone afterwords. The tornado took almost the same path as the May 4, 2003 tornado did. Thankfully, no one around here was hurt, but there was quite a bit of damage (and it was also VERY wide spread). We lost the top of a very large tree along w/several smaller branches. At work, we had power when I first got there, but then lost it a short time later, and didn't get it back till around 2:30. Secretly, I was wishing we wouldn't get it back (and in fact, they had just told us we would be w/out it 2-3 days, but then the stupid utility company had to go and fix it in 5 minutes). We were all going to get to go home early and we wouldn't have had work Saturday - oh well. :) What's crazy is that the weatherman had said we were only under a thunderstorm warning - and then all the sudden the tornado sirens were going off. Let's just say, I hope they get it better in the future! I hope everyone made it through the storm all right!
In other news, I started a diet about a month ago. It's called the Mayo Clinic Diet - and no, I guess it has nothing to do w/the actual Mayo Clinic. :) It involves eliminating breads, sugars, and starches and drinking/eating grapefruit; you stay on it for 12 days and then you're off for 2. Now, I followed it to the letter for about 2 days, but then parts of it were making me sick (just about literally). So, I have modified it - I don't do the grapefruit, and I eat fruit. So far I have lost about 10 lbs, 3 inches from my waist, and about 1.5 inches from each thigh. Now to be honest, I gained some one week, lost some another, and then gained some last week. I haven't started exercising regularly yet, hopefully with the weather getting better, we can start riding bikes and going for walks.
Right before I started the diet, I started a new medication that should help my body get back in balance and help make it easier to get pg (it's actually a diabetic med, but people w/PCOS tend to be insulin resistant, which is close to being diabetic). I decided to go back to my OB-GYN in Joplin and I'm glad I did. With the dr. in Pittsburg, he only wanted to treat the symptoms, not the underlying problem. This dr. seems to be more caring and understanding (could be that she's a female, but just a guess) and has patients w/PCOS for which this med seems to work, and I would say so far it is - thankfully. She also told me that if I could even just lose 10 lbs, it would help things, too, thus the reason I went on the diet. I have already begun to notice a difference - I'm not as tired any more, I'm not constantly depressed (although I definitely still have my days) and I'm not so moody. It's been a very nice change. :)
Well, not too much else going on. We're both busy w/work. We've started playing catch in the evenings. It's been really nice and it gets us outdoors and playing w/Ellie. :) She has been having fun "playing" w/us. She chases the ball back and forth as we're throwing it. So she has been getting some exercise, too.
We've also decided to plant a garden this year and since our yard is not big enough, we're doing it at my parent's house (they had actually been thinking of planting one as well). So far, all we have planted are potatoes, corn, and green onions - which, I think are all coming up. It's been so wet lately though, we haven't been able to get in and get the rest of the items planted, but hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll be able to go in and get the rest in the ground. We're going to try and keep it organic so if anyone has any advice for fertilizer, etc. let me know! :)
I've also watched Elam a couple of times on my afternoon off. Adam and I have really enjoyed playing him. He and his uncle Adam are buddies - so long as Adam takes him outside. :) He's getting so big and sooo cute! He's talking, or at least saying some words. He also knows where all his facial features are (ears, nose, eyes, mouth along w/his belly) - when you ask him where his eyes are, he blinks them and for his belly, he lifts his shirt to show you. :) He also knows what "sounds" certain animals make, like a cat, dog, duck, and cow. When he does the dog, he sticks his tongue out and pants. It is soooo cute! And his giggle now is absolutely adorable! I just love the little guy!
I can't believe we're already 5 months into this year! It's crazy how fast this year has gone! I hope you all have had a great year so far. School is almost out and summer is almost hear! Whoo hoo!! Sunshine and sprinklers - can't wait! :)
